The Calculator and the Stopwatch

Open Calculator from the programs menu or the programs panel of the main screen, or put the Calculator widget on your home screen - see FastMediaSorter widgets for your home screen. If the calculator is switched off, the widget says Calculator is off and offers Open Settings.

From the text editor you can also select a sum written in a note, such as 12*7+5, and send it to the calculator - see Reading and editing text files.

Type the numbers and the operations as on any calculator. While you type the second number, the running result already shows in the history above, so you see the answer before you press =.

If there is no answer yet - for example you are dividing and the divisor is still 0 - nothing is shown rather than an error. The error comes only when you press =: Can't divide by zero.

Tap the result to copy it. Tap the three-dots key for the menu: Copy, Paste, Round, Function, Send result, Save history, Clear history and Calculator settings.

Each key carries a second action, written in small letters under its own symbol. Touch and hold the key to use it:

• 1 - 1/x, 2 - x², 3 - ∛x, 4 - √x, 5 - xʸ, 6 - n!;
• 7 - sin, 8 - cos, 9 - tg, ± - ctg, . - π;
• 0 - types three zeros at once, handy for thousands;
• + - copy, - - paste, × - send the result, ÷ - round, % - save the history.

Clear history is only in the menu, never under a key, so you cannot wipe it by holding a finger too long. Holding the three-dots key closes the calculator.

Every result goes into the history. You can select any part of it and copy it. Pinch the history with two fingers to make its text bigger or smaller - five sizes, remembered for next time. Save history writes it into your Downloads folder: History saved to Downloads.

Calculator settings in the menu has three choices:

• Group digits - put a comma between every three digits, on both sides of the decimal point, so 1234567 reads as 1,234,567.
• Result size - a slider for the size of the result.
• Keypad - Normal, Large keys for easier tapping, or Compact, bottom right to reach every key with one thumb.

FastMedia Wear on a paired watch has its own calculator. The C key sits in its own row below the keypad, with a gap above it, so you do not clear a sum by accident, and the result field is wide. Holding 0 types three zeros, holding the menu key leaves the calculator, and turning the crown on the history page makes the history text bigger or smaller. Open Stopwatch from the programs menu, the programs panel or the Stopwatch home-screen widget. The widget starts and stops a measurement from the home screen; if the stopwatch is switched off it says Stopwatch is off.

Tap Stopwatch settings to set it up:

• Participants - how many people run at once, up to four. The screen is split into one area per person, Participant 1 to Participant 4.
• Play music while it runs and Track - a track that loops for as long as a measurement runs. Track opens a list of the music on your phone only; with no music it says No music found on this device. Music volume sets how loud it plays.
• Volume keys start and stop - while the stopwatch is open, volume up starts or takes a lap and volume down stops, without first choosing an area. The phone volume does not change while you use them. Turn this off to give the keys back to the system.

• Start all starts every visible participant at once, and the same button becomes Stop all. Each area also has its own Start, Stop, Lap and Reset; Reset all clears everyone.
• Lap records the time of each round; before the first one the area says No laps yet - press Lap while it runs.
• Result opens Stopwatch result: add a Description and a Note, check the Preview, then Save to file (it goes to Downloads: Saved to Downloads) or Send it to a chat or email. The result carries the date and time it was measured - Measured at - in the preview, the file and the sent text alike.
